[It's a video call, which Alex doesn't normally do, but she's sitting at their kitchen table when she should be at work, and she's got a silver canister in front of her that one hand is keeping a hold of on for dear life and so tightly that her knuckles are white.]

Hi. I'm skipping work today. The portal people got in touch with me, and they were able to recover my memories. They're here. [Alex just raises the canister for a minute with a little smile.] Can you come home please? I just thought-- I mean I would rather have you here when I did it than not.

[Richard is still setting up his office. It's pretty sparse at the moment, but it's got shelving space and a few books lining those shelves. Sadly, no Black Tapes.

When she talks about having her memories he turns to look at her, brows creasing.]

Your memories?

Yeah. They said that they recovered them. They're here. In this thing.

[Alex holds up the canister with a smile, but her grip on it doesn't go away.]

I don't know how many there are or when it goes to, but I guess I will when I open it?

[It's convenient, so very, very convenient, and he wonders just what kind of plan Warren is trying here. So far there's been no attempts to open any 'demon doors', unless this is a way to placate them while he does something outside of this world.

Still, he has no proof.

He grabbed his coat, heading out of the room as the background moves and blurs with his long and quick strides.]

Okay. Good.

[Alex is figiditing, which is a sure sign that she's a little nervous about this, whatever else she's telling herself. But she's excited too, and she can feel it moving over her pulse.]

You know, Richard, this is seriously the weirdest thing I've ever done in my life, which considering my life for the last two years kinda says a lot.

[He paused, thinking about that before he reminded himself to move again and the background again seemed to blur.]

There are, probably, rivaling activities.

[Calling the police about a break-in that involved a demon was probably at the top of the list. Asking a married man to run away with her so they could prevent his being used to cause a demonic apocalypse might also rival it.]

Talking to Nic, for example.

[Alex laughed at that, and she got up, because she couldn't sit still anymore. It wasn't quite like when she was doing her thing at the studio that Richard called "giving her presentation" but it also was closer than she wanted to admit.

Nor did she want to admit how much she couldn't keep still, even as she picked up the phone in one hand, while holding onto the canister in the other.]

Only when he is really really drugged out after drinking cult tea, maybe.

[A beat and a grin.]

Say what you want about the stupid things I've done, but at least I've never drunk cult tea from a cult that I know is kidnapping people.

I'd ban you from doing anything investigative by yourself at that point.

[He felt justified in saying that. There was no way he was allowing Alex to go drink drugged cult tea. Although he doubted Warren specialized in drugged tea. Not yet at least.]

[That just earns him a huffy laugh.]

Like anyone who ever tries to ban me for anything ever has it stick, Richard.

Besides, I'm not Nic and that dumb. If Thomas Warren offered me tea, I'd just dump it in his lap.

[Because fuck Thomas Warren.]

[There's a small smirk because she would.]

Which is why I haven't done anything to stop you from investigating by yourself.

You seem to think that stopping me from doing something is going to be a hell of a lot easier than it would ever be, Richard.

[Alex is still pacing, and while she sounds amused, there's more than a kernel of truth in her words. No one can tell Alex not to do something; it just makes her do it more.]

[It wasn't stopping her so much as monitoring her for her own good.]

[Alex is probably not wrong.]

[Alex countered with a quick grin as she paced the living room. She expected that he was trying to distract her, and she appreciated it. For the first time, Alex was really glad that no one had ever put her in a Pandora-like situation; humanity would be doomed.]

[He was, hoping that he was at least doing a decent job.]

[The words come with a grin, and she stops pacing for a minute, before she just tries to look in the background of where he is.]

Oh, I don't know about that. I mean I get twitter messages of people professing their love to me all the time.

[It's clear she's joking.]

But clearly there's no one who I'd rather have enjoy me than you.

[That makes her laugh, and when she hears the door open, Alex is just going to bolt over to it, and throw herself into his arms.]

[Alex isn't even going to say anything. Instead she's just going to show herself sitting on a very familiar front porch indeed with a radised brow.]

[Richard will give a suffering sigh. Of course Howard's house is here. Of course. Any delusion they shared wouldn't be complete without Howard's damn house showing up.]

I suppose we'll be moving then.

[There's too much in that house to let it all go unchecked. Especially the things about him.]
